A few months back, Teas Unique reached out and sent me some samples of loose leaf tea and matcha to try. I meant to post about it sooner, but it’s never too late to talk about tea! Also, it’s been a couple weeks since I’ve had a chance to post since life has been kind of hectic lately, and that always makes me antsy — so I’m glad to be bringing you this tea review today!
Teas Unique sent me 4 different whole leaf teas, a sample of matcha and a bar of their Matchacolate to review, all of which you have a chance to win in my giveaway! As you may or may not know, I have a huge sweet tooth and love chocolate almost as much as I love tea, so seeing this in the tea mail made me super excited!
The packaging said the matcha chocolate bar would be white chocolate, so when I opened it up I was surprised that it was milk chocolate, but still very excited to try it. The verdict? It’s really delicious — green tea and cocoa come together to create a smooth, sweet and earthy candy bar.
Today I’m reviewing the second pluck red tea and second pluck green tea. I will review the third pluck teas and matcha in a future post.
The Korean Boseong Sejak (Second Pluck) Hwang Cha (Lightly oxidized) red tea is very soft and aromatic. It has a mild, relaxing and nutty flavor, with the tiniest hint of smokiness — not at all overpowering.
The Korean Boseong Sejak (Second Pluck) Organic Single Estate Whole Leaf Green Tea is also smooth, though more vegetal, tasting like a very toned-down sencha.
Most of the green teas I have tried have been Japanese, and I noticed the sweetness and mildness of this Korean leaf in comparison. Teas Unique’s green tea is Jaksul Nokcha, which translates to “sparrows beak,” and the name comes from the shape of the camellia sinensis leaf shape containing the bud and two leaves. This tea is very aromatic, and blends to a nice, light green hue.
I was really happy with the taste of these teas, and the Matchacolate. Be sure to check out their website if you’d like to buy some, but you can also enter my Instagram giveaway by commenting on the post with your favorite kind of tea and tagging a friend (contest goes through Monday and winners will be chosen later in the week)!
As always, happy steeping, and I hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
