It’s been a very long time since I’ve been to a tea room, and that’s sad! I love the experience of sitting down with someone and enjoying a light lunch and pot of tea, so I was very excited to visit Garden Gate Tea House for the first time yesterday with my boyfriend, his mom, grandma, aunt and brother.
Located in downtown Delphi, Ind. (about 30 minutes outside of Lafayette), this is a charming little tea room with delicious food and a relaxed but classic atmosphere. I had never heard of this city, but it’s really cute and it was great experiencing part of it.
It’s really cute inside the Garden Gate Tea House! I love the eclectic tea cups and pots, which is something I’ve seen at other tea rooms I’ve been to and find it very charming.
They also had a lot of cute seasonal and traditional tea ware available for purchase. It was very hard for me not to buy everything they had for sale because it was so cute and whimsical, and the prices weren’t too bad either.
I got a pot of their French Blend tea, which intrigued me with its blend of black tea, green tea, lavender and cornflower. And I loved this loose tea so much that Damien’s grandma bought me some to go!
In addition to tea, afternoon tea is not complete without tasty food and sweets. For lunch I got the chicken salad sandwich, which was divine with grapes and walnuts, a salad, and a tomato bisque. And I couldn’t resist ordering their hummingbird cake for dessert, upon Damien’s aunt’s recommendation — and I was not disappointed. Though it was heavy, the cake was a delicious blend of coconut, pineapple and nuts, which a cream cheese frosting.
It’s crazy to think that this is the first tea room I’ve been to since moving almost a year ago, but I wasn’t disappointed. This is the fourth victorian-style tea room I’ve ever been to, and it reminds me a lot of the Royal Treat Tea Room in Roseville, Mich.
Overall, this is a great place to go to with friends or family. The decent sized tea selection and food menu offers something for everyone, and the laid-back atmosphere makes for a great experience.
