Sunday before work, we indulged in one of my favorite foods during an awesome NW Indiana happening — The Pierogi Festival in Whiting.
Sadly, though I lived close to Detroit, I’d never been to the Hamtramck Pierogi Fest, but this one was pretty awesome — and really a big deal in NIW. Everyone was talking about it, so we had to check it out.
It was a blast. Though it was a little hot, everyone was out enjoying the pierogis and Polish culture.
We make a lot of visits to Dan’s Pierogis in Highland — my favorite piergoi is spinach, but the classic potato is also one I often enjoy. But I was surprised how many pierogi makers there are nearby. My favorite pierogis at the festival were the mushroom and plain potato ones. We each ate a total of nine pierogis, from a few different venders. I wanted to keep going but at that point I was done.
The show wasn’t just about Polish food and dessert, though. I picked up some awesome tea and soaps, from the art and crafts area. We also got to check out downtown Whiting, which is pretty cute, and take a nice long walk. With pierogi decorations all around, everyone seemed to be in the spirit of the festival.
