From the first time I saw the video for “Put Your Records On” on VH1’s “You Oughta Know” program, I’ve always been a big fan of Corinne Bailey Rae. The singer has soul and her music is just so beautiful.
This week marked the ten-year anniversary of her first album — so crazy. As a tease for her upcoming album, “The Heart Speaks in Whispers,” (which became available for preorder today and will be available in May) her new track
“Been to the Moon” follows suit.
It’s clear why Corinne’s music is full of so much soul. For one, she is very talented. But she’s also had to face a lot in life. I believe losses are tragic, but expressing the feelings we face upon the loss of someone close to us can produce a great art form. That shows in her music.
“Been to the Moon” has a lot of feeling, similar to her songs “Closer” and Breathless.” She also uses unique instrumentals in the background that make it a stand-out track, and convey feelings of being on the moon. It also has some great jazzy brass in signature CBR style.
In addition, the video is beautifully done, with Corinne wandering around a desert-like area resembling the moon in a golden sparkling jump suit.
