If there was ever a song I could get lost in, it would have to be “Two Weeks” by Grizzly Bear. It just has that floating feeling that encompasses music you listen to when you want to get away, even if it’s not physically possible. Lately, I’ve had this track on repeat. It’s a nice song to listen to while drinking a glass of green tea and pondering life.
Brooklyn-based indie band Grizzly Bear released this track in 2009, and Beach House vocalist Victoria Legrand is featured in the background. The track has appeared in an episode of How I Met Your Mother, as well as a few commercials. To me, the song seems to be about mundane, every day life, with the opening phrase “See the pall of day, a routine malaise,” as well the idea of trying to convince someone of something: “Just like yesterday, I told you I would stay.” Whatever the band is trying to say, this song gets it across in an almost angelic manner, though it seems to have some sort of unangelic symbolism with the fact that they catch on fire in a church.
