One band I can’t get enough of is Fitz and the Tantrums. I love their modern take on Motown; they have a sound that stands out among other alternative-pop artists. While I’m a fan of “More Than Just a Dream” and “Songs for a Breakup,” one of my favorites by the band is their debut album title-track “Pickin’ Up the Pieces.”
Released in 2010, the song is hopeful, talking about continuing on even when life gets hard, and “picking up the pieces” when things start to fall apart. I love the vintage feel, and the emotion the band brings to the stage.
While the studio version itself is great, one of my favorite versions of this track is the performance with Daryl Hall at his web series “Daryl’s House,” which includes a groovy, fun flute solo.
Though the song never made it to the charts, the album made it to number one on the U.S. Heat Charts in 2010.
