Lana Del Rey is one of my favorite artists. While she didn’t really face a struggle to make it to the top, she is very talented and her uniquely strong vocals and lyrics are easy to get lost in. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of her music on repeat, including her cover of “Blue Velvet.”
This track was originally recorded by Tony Bennett in 1950, and then again by Bobby Vinton in 1963, who made the song famous. While these versions were well-done, they were both sung by male vocalists, so it is interesting to compare them to Lana’s cover. The song has been covered many times by more than ten different artists, but hers has a more emotional perspective, almost as it is being sung by the woman in the blue velvet herself.
The song was featured in Lana Del Rey’s September 2012 H&M commercial.
Gorgeous track and incredibly inspiring – thank you for sharing. Wonderful to hear something different from what is on my itunes at the moment 🙂
