One of fall’s biggest trends is denim. Carried over from last summer, the look still remains a hit in many stores, where shelves are stocked with denim button-downs and jackets. Options for denim are endless. Layer your favorite summer-style denim items for a stylish look, wear a comfy denim button-down for effortless style or add a jean jacket to structure a simple outfit.
Button-down denim shirts, like these chambray tops from Madewell, are essential to any wardrobe. Denim shirts are sold in a variety of washes, in prices to fit any budget. A bright scarf is a great way to accentuate the look, adding a pop of color and warmth.
Longer denim button downs, like this top from the Gap outlet, are great when styled with leggings, for a 1980s vibe. If the shirt is too lose, a belt accentuates the waste and adds structure. This look is great because it helps the wearer avoid the dreaded “denim suit” ensemble.
This denim shirt from J. Crew outlet is even longer, and could be worn as more of a dress over tights or leggings.
Thin material denim button-downs can also be worn layered and open as an overshirt. Layer your favorite denim shirt over a dress for a chic look.
Speaking of layering, do you have a denim vest from summer that you don’t yet want to stow away? Wear it over long sleeves! Forever 21 styled a light-wash denim vest over a sweater, adding extra style to a functional look.
The jean jacket is a signature denim classic that never goes out of style. As seen here layered over a flannel and styled with a skirt and oversized bag at Madewell, jean jackets are very versatile and a must-have for any wardrobe. This look would be great with sweater-tights and boots, to stay warm and cute on a chilly day.
Denim doesn’t have to be blue. Opt for a different shade of jean jacket, like this black one from the Gap, especially if you are already wearing blue jeans, to avoid clashing colors.
Distressed denim is still an option, available at many retailers. Or if you want the real thing, consider hitting up your local thrift shop.
If you’re feeling bold enough, go for something that really stands out– like this acid wash denim shirt. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your look. But if you decide to make a denim top the statement piece of your look, keep everything else simple.
